How to Volunteer With Champions World International — A Complete Guide
A complete guide to volunteering with Champions World International across Texas, California, and Louisiana — roles, requirements, and how to apply.
Champions World International Editorial Team · June 2026 · 5 min read
Volunteering with Champions World International is one of the most direct ways to contribute to community change in Texas, California, and Louisiana. This guide covers available roles, what to expect, requirements, and how to apply.
Why Volunteering at CWI Is Different
Many volunteering experiences consist of showing up once, completing a task, and leaving without a clear sense of impact. Champions World International is built differently.
Our volunteers are embedded in programs. They develop relationships with the people they serve. They receive training, ongoing support, and a coordinator who ensures they know exactly what they are doing and why. They are part of a team — not a one-time labor resource.
This approach requires more commitment than a single-day volunteer event. It produces more impact, more meaning, and more genuine connection to the community than a single-day volunteer event can.
Available Volunteer Roles
Food Pantry & Distribution — Texas and Louisiana campuses. Weekends and select weekdays. Sort, pack, and distribute food supplies to community members. No experience required.
Mental Health Support Aide — All campuses. Minimum 4 hours per week. Support licensed counselors in group sessions, peer programs, and administrative coordination. Background in psychology or social work preferred but not required.
Youth Mentorship & Tutoring — All campuses. After-school hours. Work one-on-one or in small groups with teens in youth development and academic support programs.
Skills-Based Volunteering — Remote or on-campus. Project-based. Bring professional skills in legal, medical, financial, marketing, IT, or design to support programs and operations.
What to Expect as a Volunteer
- Orientation: Every volunteer completes a one-hour onboarding before their first shift
- Training: Role-specific training before you work directly with community members
- Coordinator support: A named coordinator you can contact with questions or concerns
- Regular check-ins: Your coordinator checks in at least monthly
- Reference letters: Available for volunteers who serve consistently for 3+ months
Requirements and Screening
All volunteers undergo:
- An application and interview process
- Background check (required for roles involving direct contact with minors or vulnerable adults)
- Mandatory orientation
- Signing of confidentiality agreement
These requirements exist to protect the people we serve. They are non-negotiable.
Remote and Skills-Based Volunteering
Not all volunteering requires physical presence. Skills-based volunteers — lawyers, doctors, accountants, marketers, designers, developers, and other professionals — can often contribute meaningfully from anywhere.
Current skills-based needs include:
- Legal pro bono support (immigration, family law, business law)
- Healthcare professionals for health fair and screening events
- Marketing and social media support
- Grant writing assistance
- IT and website support
Group and Corporate Volunteering
Organizations, corporations, and faith communities are welcome to coordinate group volunteer days or ongoing partnerships. We have hosted group volunteer events for food pantry operations, community outreach events, and skills-based projects.
Contact championsbldchampions@gmail.com to discuss how we can structure a group volunteering arrangement for your organization.
